Electrical Stimulation

Electrical stimulation (E-stim) is a treatment modality that passes electrical current into the patient’s body. Most often, people have heard the term TENS used to describe electrical stimulation. However, there are several different types of electrical stimulation that are used for specific purposes. At Aspire Physical Therapy, our clinicians determine the most effective use of electrical stimulation by combining the most recent research, our advanced training, and years of clinical experience.

Examples of electrical stimulation include:

  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
  • Russian stimulation
  • Interferential current (IFC)
  • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES)
  • Microcurrent electrical neuromuscular stimulation (MENS)
  • High voltage electrical stimulation (Hi-Volt)
  • Iontophoresis.
